Hi Mei Zee! Describe yourself in 3 words!
To the Nth!
You’re currently running a business, but you’ve accomplished so much, including having been an editor, owning your own baking business and most importantly being a Mother! How has that been like for you, and how do you find the time and energy to keep things running so smoothly?
Actually I was Editor in Chief at ELLE Singapore and The Peak, but that was 15 years ago! I had a dessert business, Let Them Eat Cake, which I did for 10 years. It was real good fun. I stopped that two years ago to start studying again…online. And it has been really fulfilling and exposed me to some extremely bright minds. I am also Head of Corporate Communications at a biotech company. It deals with stem cell science. I love it because I get to learn something new everyday. New and amazing things are happening in the medical and therapeutic world as we speak!
Why did you start Pilates, and how does Pilates help you in your life?
I started Pilates about four years ago. Initially my goal was to improve my flexibility because I am naturally rather un-flexi. That has improved tremendously, but also my coordination, balance and core strength. I surprise myself when I can do things that my teenage children can’t! My highlight was beating one of my teenagers, who is twice my size, at arm wrestling! I realise that core strength translates to strength in every part of your body because you are really well centred to exert your energy in the right place. I would want to lift things, climb up ladders, walk up mountains, carry my great grand children right till I’m 90 and over…and I am working on it right now with the help of Pilates.
What’s your favourite thing to do to unwind after a long day?
Having dinner while watching TV as a family…most favourite thing to do at ALL times.
What’s one inspirational quote you live by?
How can I do better than that….that came from me haha
